Common Faults & Solutions of ABB ACS580 Drive

The ABB ACS580 series VFD is widely used in pumps, fans, conveyors, compressors and general industrial machinery worldwide. Although stable and durable, faults may appear due to wiring, parameter settings, environment or load issues.

This short guide lists typical alarms and practical solutions to help overseas maintenance teams quickly diagnose and restore operation.

Overcurrent (OC): Triggered when drive current exceeds safe limits.

• Possible causes: Motor or cable short circuit, acceleration time too short, mechanical jam, incorrect motor parameters.
• Solutions: Check cable insulation, extend acceleration time, inspect load and bearings, reconfigure motor nameplate data.

Overvoltage (OV): Often happens during deceleration or sudden load changes.

• Possible causes: Fast deceleration, unstable input voltage, regenerative energy not absorbed.
• Solutions: Increase deceleration time, install a braking resistor if needed, stabilize main power supply.

Overheating (OH): Common in dusty or high-temperature environments.

• Possible causes: Blocked fan, dirty heat sink, poor ventilation, overload.
• Solutions: Clean fan and heat sink, improve on-site airflow, reduce continuous heavy load.

Motor Fails to Start: Drive shows normal but motor does not run.

• Possible causes: Wrong control source, loose wiring, missing run signal, parameter lock.
